Woah Baby: 10 Years Old

Today my Zachman (aka Sugar Butt) turns the big 1-0! I really cannot believe how fast the time goes.

This time 10 years ago I was at home with my mom trying to sleep between contractions and arguing with my dad who swore I'd be in labor for at least another day or two. He was wrong and I kept telling him I WOULD give birth to Zach that day. Amazing how a mother and their baby just know isn't it?

I honestly could not imagine what my life would be like if I didn't have Zachary in it. Even at 10 I still miss him anytime he's gone, I still love sneaking into his room at night after he's fallen asleep, kissing him on the forehead and just watching him sleep. I still love the fact that he calls me Moommy Bird and yes I still love the fact that he, like his mama, will stand up for what he believes in. Makes for a pretty interesting day when we both believe in something different too let me tell ya!

And, I'm proud of the fact that he's growing up to be a caring and sensitive young man, even if he doesn't tell me he loves me first or give me kisses before he climbs on the bus every morning. I know the time will come when he does those things on a regular basis again. I'm proud of the fact that he is a straight A student and a respectful and well-behaved child. I'm proud of the fact that he loves his younger brother and is excited about adding another sibling to the family. I'm proud of the fact that he is a good friend, but doesn't back down when one of his buddies gets on his nerves or does something he doesn't like. But I'm even more proud of the fact that he doesn't hold a grudge and remembers that forgiveness is a good thing in life. I'm proud of the fact that he is curious and wants to know about God and the role He has in our lives.

I could go on and on about the things I'm proud of about my oldest son, but I think saying I'm proud Zachary is my child and that God gave me the chance to be his mother pretty much sums it all up.

Zachary and I have a relationship that I know I will never have with another human being in my life. He and I have been one another's rock through many trying times in our lives, even times that a child his age should not have to go through. Through it all, no matter what happens or where life leads him, we both know that we'll always have each other. There's a bond there that can never be broken or replaced.

Here he is this summer on our camping trip...looks like he's thinking about something pretty intense hu? Who knows maybe, like me, he's contemplating what the next 10 years will bring? No matter what those things may be, I'm honored to be his Moommy and to know that he is MY son. I couldn't have picked a better child for me if I was given the chance!

So, Happy Birthday Zachman! Here's to the next 10 years of your life being everything you hope they will be! Moommy Bird loves you!
